Preliminary qualifying fandoms!

So, based on my extremely scientific method of asking people what they've written, here is the preliminary list of fandoms used as "qualifying fandoms." (By "qualifying fandoms," I mean that anyone who signs up should fit the base requirement of THREE 500+ word stories OR FIVE 100+ word stories in at least one of those fandoms by the end of sign-ups.)

Everything listed below were mentioned four times or more as being fandoms they have already written. If there are other fandoms you'd like to be considered "qualifying fandoms" list, please comment here. (It would also be helpful if you can show that there are other authors interested.)

Tentative Qualifying Fandoms (with mentions):

• Babylon 5 (4)
• Buffy the Vampire Slayer (9) -- does not include Angel (3)
• DC Comics Movies (4) - Batman and Superman
• Doctor Who (5)
• Fairy Tales (6) -- includes Disney Princesses
• Game of Thrones (5)
• Marvel Cinematic Universe* (17)
• Pacific Rim (4)
• Star Trek TOS (5)
• Stargate Atlantis/SG-1 (7)
• Supernatural (4)
• White Collar (4)
• The X-Files (4)

*At this point, I think Agents of SHIELD will be listed separately from Marvel Cinematic Universe, but I am open to discussion on this.

There were several more fandoms with 2-3 mentions, so if you think yours might be close, please comment/gather your friends to get it more support!

Is that something I should change? They both had 7 people interested, and I thought they were all the same people, but I'm willing to split it if that would be better. (I missed the Stargate train and only have basic knowledge of the shows.)

They're set in completely different galaxies with completely different characters. Most fans do crossover, but not all; there's a significant faction of SG1 that turns their noses up at SGA (claiming it was the downfall of Stargate), and a significant faction of SGA that's *only* SGA. But then there are a lot of people who do both, and some people (like me) who are fans of SG1 but only casual fans of SGA (even though I did write a couple of SGA fics). Basically, it depends on who it is who's signing up. Most people would be okay with getting either, but not all? On the other hand, the biggest group of SGA only people were the John/Rodney slashers who we don't have to worry about (yay!). Maybe ask right before signups what people want?

Yeah, there will be some polling before the fandom list is made official, because the numbers I currently have may not reflect the people who actually sign up (I'd like to think that everyone who weighed in will participate, but life gets in the way, and the schedule may not work for everyone). But this list at least gives people some options if they don't quite qualify yet.

Also, good to know re: SG1/SGA. That one and the various Star Treks are hard to know quite what to do with (all told, there were about 10 people who have written Trek, but most of them mentioned specific series/movies).

Another person chiming in to say that, like the different Stargates, the Trek series all exist in their own continuity with their own characters, and lots of people are a fan of/have only watched one series or another, rather than all of them.

Also I have to state that there are lots of SGA-only people who never wrote McShep! ;P

Yeah, I was aware of that with Star Trek, which is why I made sure to separate them out in the poll (though I still managed to leave off TNG -- and now everyone knows I've never been a Trekkie). Depending on how the poll goes, I will probably run a second poll to figure out exactly how to combine or not combine those sorts of amalgamated fandoms -- the Star Treks, Stargate, Buffy/Angel, MCU/Agents of Shield, Hobbit/LotR/Silmarillion, etc. Combining them would make it easier for people to qualify, but if most people only write one or the other, then it doesn't really help anyone to do that.
