FemmeRemix 2016

Hello everyone, FemmeRemix 2016 is here! Last year was a great success, and we want to do even better with the sophomore run!

We are making a few modifications to the way things will be run (detailed below), hopefully for the better.

For now, here is the calendar for the upcoming challenge (exact times TBA):

- Nominations April 24-May 8
- Sign-Ups May 13-28
- Assignments Out no later than June 5
- Assignments Due July 24
- Stories Live July 31

You'll notice that this year there will be official nominations. The lack of these last year was an oversight on my part, which was partly induced by wanting to get the challenge running as quickly as possible. This worked fairly well, but did have a couple of hiccups. So we're trying out official nominations this year.

That said, since [community profile] femmeremix has some specific requirements for Qualified Fandoms for matching, we are asking that you only nominate fandoms in which you qualify for the challenge (IE, fandoms in which you have written 5 or more stories about women of 100+ words or 3 or more stories about women of 500+ words). Our intention is to ensure that we are able to match you with a remixer who can write in at least one of your fandoms and that you have enough stories that they will have several to choose from. By limiting the nominations to qualifying fandoms we will hopefully be able to match everyone with very little jerry-rigging.

The other planned change is that anyone who is defaulted by the mods at the July 24 due date will be banned from participating in future remixes. This includes anyone who submits an incomplete and/or placeholder story. It does not include people who have been granted extensions prior to the deadline.

I have a question about the crossover rule, which has been confusing me. My main fandom is Tolkien, where The Silmarillion, The Hobbit, and The Lord of the Rings are separate books, but set in the same universe and forming one continuous history (including a few of the same characters). I've written several stories that draw on more than one of those, such as the Silm and LOTR, and so I've tagged them with both fandoms. Are those works ineligible as crossovers?

(If they aren't eligible, then I don't currently qualify for Lord of the Rings, but I can write another drabble or so if I need to.)

Okay. :) That does make sense, and I wouldn't want to make anyone's life difficult. There are some cases where I'm not 100% sure myself where to classify them -- but rather than making you decide on borderline cases, probably I should just write one more story before signups, and then I can qualify without any ambiguity. Thanks!

Sure! If you think it would be helpful.
