FemmeRemix 2016
Hello everyone, FemmeRemix 2016 is here! Last year was a great success, and we want to do even better with the sophomore run!
We are making a few modifications to the way things will be run (detailed below), hopefully for the better.
For now, here is the calendar for the upcoming challenge (exact times TBA):
- Nominations April 24-May 8
- Sign-Ups May 13-28
- Assignments Out no later than June 5
- Assignments Due July 24
- Stories Live July 31
You'll notice that this year there will be official nominations. The lack of these last year was an oversight on my part, which was partly induced by wanting to get the challenge running as quickly as possible. This worked fairly well, but did have a couple of hiccups. So we're trying out official nominations this year.
That said, since
femmeremix has some specific requirements for Qualified Fandoms for matching, we are asking that you only nominate fandoms in which you qualify for the challenge (IE, fandoms in which you have written 5 or more stories about women of 100+ words or 3 or more stories about women of 500+ words). Our intention is to ensure that we are able to match you with a remixer who can write in at least one of your fandoms and that you have enough stories that they will have several to choose from. By limiting the nominations to qualifying fandoms we will hopefully be able to match everyone with very little jerry-rigging.
The other planned change is that anyone who is defaulted by the mods at the July 24 due date will be banned from participating in future remixes. This includes anyone who submits an incomplete and/or placeholder story. It does not include people who have been granted extensions prior to the deadline.
If you have any questions, please comment on this post.

Exchange assignments are eligible for the remix as long as they are not remixes of someone else's story or co-written* with another person. So if you've written several qualifying stories in a fandom for Yuletide, they are eligible for this remix, but if you've written stories for Remix Redux, those are not eligible.
*Exceptions to the co-written rule are: if you and your co-writer are remixing together or if your "co-author" only did the art work/podfic/mixtape/etc. for a work you wrote yourself. If either of these is the case, make sure you indicate that in your sign-up as we will be checking for eligibility.
Last year's rules are here (please note that the changes mentioned in this post are not reflected in the rules yet).

(If they aren't eligible, then I don't currently qualify for Lord of the Rings, but I can write another drabble or so if I need to.)

That said, if you are eligible in both fandoms, and happened to be matched with someone who is familiar with both of them, they could potentially remix one of those "crossover" stories.
This was brought up in comments last year as well, so just to clarify - our eligibility restrictions on fandoms you can request to be remixed are there simply to facilitate matching. Once you've been matched with someone, you have free rein to remix any of their stories except their safe story and their previous remixes, regardless of whether the story you choose is from your matched fandom.
