Some numbers and a new poll

Sorry for not updating sooner -- my only excuse is that I've been drowning in Captain America feels. Anyway, here are the results of the fandom poll (now closed), and a new poll to further narrow down the list. Any fandoms with no votes has been struck from the second poll. Any fandom with only one vote after the SECOND poll will be struck from the final list, as that means it is likely unmatchable. If your fandom only has one vote but you know other people write for it, encourage them to participate in the poll (but please make sure they are going to participate in the remix!).

These are the results from the original poll, without the write-ins. Votes were for fandoms in which you both qualified (have written at least three 500-word stories or five 100-word stories with at least one female character) and would be interested in writing.

Also, re: the Wild-Card. About 25% of participants said they were not interested in a wild-card, while the other 75% said yes or maybe. So the wild-card will happen, but you are not required to participate in it if you qualify in at least one of the final fandoms. If, however, you only qualify as a wild-card, you will also have to participate as a wild-card.

Wait, didn't you say originally that the stories with which we had to qualify had to BE centered on a female character? Now you're saying that the stories just have to HAVE at least one female character somewhere for remixing purposes? Because that changes a lot.

No, just that they have to have at least one female character, and preferably non-slash (since remixers are not allowed to change pairings, using slash-centric stories to qualify is not really in the spirit of the remix, but I also want this to be as inclusive as possible, so I'm not going to be militant about it unless somebody outright does not qualify and still signs up). As a remixer, you're required to make women the central part of the story, but you can take stories that weren't originally female-centric and make them so.

Yes, it does. Thank you. I have to say that changes my answers considerably. (And would have made Dresden Files eligible for the second round, because I have sixteen Dresden Files stories with female characters, even if most of the stories don't feature women as LEAD characters.)

Unless the numbers change drastically, this will probably be the final poll, so the write-ins are important (though there have been some changes in numbers over the course of the polling, there are definitely patterns in terms of the most popular/most consistently mentioned fandoms).

Hey, so real life has gotten in the way of my running this at the moment. It is going to happen, just a couple weeks later than originally stated! (I have finals this week, and I was hoping to be able to set up sign-ups and let them run until I was done with finals, but that has not worked out the way I wanted it to. So, dates have been shifted and there will be an announcement about sign-ups as soon as I'm in the clear.)

It seems as though this fest is not happening for spring / summer 2014. Are you planning to run it later in 2014, or in 2015?

I ask because a) I'd love to see this happen, and b) I've run a HP femslash remix in the past and I've been waiting to hear about scheduling for this before running another round.

It is not happening this year, no. I've had too many real-life things come up for me to be able to do it, unfortunately. I'm hoping to get it moving for Winter/Spring 2015. :)

Oh goodness, maybe??? I don't know what I am doing this summer yet (I am in the midst of job-hunting, as I graduate in a few weeks), so once that's sorted out, we should definitely talk!

(I've been thinking about this challenge recently, and I'm wondering if it might be best to do nominations via AO3, the way that Yuletide does. Have people nominate up to 3 fandoms they're eligible for, and encourage duplicate nominations because that helps us know what is/isn't popular enough to be a qualifying fandom. Thoughts?)

I can help this year. I couldn't last year due to buying a house and moving out of the home that we'd had for more or less 22 years. This year, I totally can do stuff and I'd love to.

Doing nominations via AO3 is probably best - I've done AO3 and I've done manual, and AO3 is much easier.
